Thailand - elephant paradise
A classic travelling destination, at first glance DUCK Thailand could seem rather gap yar style. Yes, there are elephants. Abused, pitiful and now rescued elephants are waiting for you. But this DUCK expedition also features running summer schools for Burmese refugee kids. Have fun, and make an impact.
Dates: mid August - mid September (5 weeks)
Provisional Fundraising Target: £2500
2017/18 Expedition Leader: Isabelle Wilson
DUCK Thailand volunteers in a sanctuary in Northern Thailand, working with elephants rescued from the cruelties of the tourist trade or logging. The team will primarily work in animal care for these beautiful and majestic creatures. You’re in charge of their wellbeing - feeding, showering and walking them, as well as maintaining their surroundings and assisting with research into their behaviour. Accommodation is located in lodges within the sanctuary itself, meaning you can eat your breakfast alongside an elephant. Immerse yourself in their world!
New for Summer 2018, DUCK will also be working in partnership with MEP and Kickstart Art, providing exciting summer schools for Burmese refugees. Introduce these kids to new opportunities and concepts, and really make an impact on their lives. The trip will round off with a week of travel, and this is up to the team - discover stunning Chang Mai nearby, bustling Bangkok, or relax on one of the Thai islands.
For those wanting a combo of animals and kids, as well as some amazing opportunities for travel - this is the one for you!
