Peru

DUCK Peru is the ultimate expedition. Now several years old, it runs like clockwork and you can see the legacies of previous DUCK groups. Be a part of something amazing, and contribute to making a real, lasting difference in the community.

This project is in aid of Picaflor Community House

the work

This project consists of 3 weeks of work at Picaflor Community House, an after-school club for less-privileged children aged 3-14, teaching English, arts and crafts, sports etc. During these three weeks, mornings will be spent carrying out maintenance work on-site. Throughout these three weeks, you will stay in Cusco, meaning you can explore the local area and discover the land of the Incas on the weekends.

travel opportunities

This expedition gives you the opportunity to spend five days trekking the Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu – your local Wonder of the World! An extra week spent can be spent exploring destinations such as the dunes of Huacachina, a tiny desert oasis, or Nazca, where you can fly over the famous Nazca lines, or even the Amazon Rainforest...

2019 leader: Alex Myal

Hi! I’m Alex, a 3rd Year Mathematician and I’m this year’s Peru Expedition leader. The trip is really exciting and I can’t wait to take a team, we will be going to a school with the Picaflor house community project and run after school clubs for the local children, and we will also spend a week working at a wildlife sanctuary with endangered monkeys! Obviously, this will still sandwich the trek up to Macchu Picchu, one of the world’s greatest wonders. As a want-to-be teacher, I love working with kids and after my Borneo expedition last year, I have a soft spot for monkeys, however much they may try and steal your food.
