costa rica - the beach experience
Live on an idyllic secluded beach for a month whilst participating in invaluable conservation - what more could you ask for!
Dates: 23rd July - 1st/3rd September (5/5.5 weeks)
Fundraising target: tbc
2017/18 Expedition Leader: Saskia Simonson
The Project is located right on the Pacific coast, and is a sea turtle conservation project. Participants will literally live on the beach for the duration, enjoying nature at its best with some awesome sunrises and sunsets. Surrounded by beautiful wildlife, the team has the enviable task of releasing hundreds of baby turtles into the wild and aiding their survival, participating in beach patrols against poachers and working in the hatcheries. Time is also devoted to the maintenance and building of the beach camp, a camp only made possible through the generous donations of DUCK 2016.
In terms of travelling, Costa Rica offers up an absolute treat - bursting with wildlife, natural wonders, stunning scenery, friendly people and exciting adventure, there is so much opportunity to truly make this the experience of a lifetime. What else are you going to do with your summer!??

Hi I’m Saskia, a final year Economics with French student at Hatfield. I spent last year studying in the South of France. I went on the Borneo expedition in my first year which was brilliant and I fell in love with turtle conservation so much that leading the Costa Rica expedition is a dream. We’ll be spending 4 weeks living in paradise by the coast, working in the hatcheries and patrolling the beaches. What more could you want? Then we’ll spend a week or so exploring the rainforest and coastline of Costa Rica or neighbours like Panama or Nicaragua. I love seeing new things and anything active or to do with nature and animals.
