We've nearly been here a week now and are all absolutely falling in love with Cambodia. Thursday was an early start of 05:00 to see the sunrise over the famous Angkor Wat temple, which was spectacular. Even though parts of the temple were closed off for Buddha day, what we got to see was worth the early start for sure. We then spent the day exploring more ancient temples, with an early finish for lunch and rest as everyone was absolutely shattered! We also got the experience the nightlife within Siem Reap.
On Friday we trekked to the River of a Thousand Lingos, a trek that took us through part of the stunning Cambodian jungle. Everyone cooled off by enjoying themselves splashing around under a waterfall and making the most of the natural rockslides, much to the amusement of Chinese tourists. Saturday was our first lie in and chance to experience the markets by day, and plenty more elephant trousers were bought! Our bus transfer to Battambang at 13:00 took us three hours and we finally felt like we were experiencing the real Cambodia and not just the touristy version. Upon arrival we were greeted with a bike tour of the city and a delicious welcome dinner from the charity. Since then we have just been getting use to this new environment, meeting other volunteers living here and preparing ourselves for the project ahead!
