We arrived at the Perhentian Islands in the early hours of the morning, due to the little sleep we'd had on the overnight bus we were exhausted. However the day had only just begun! We had a quick tour of the village, some yummy lunch and then straight into prepping for school club the next day; and if that wasn't enough we then went snorkelling - what a day! We all split into groups and went to have dinner with a local family in their houses. Traditionally Malay dinners are eaten on the floor with your right hand. The food was delicious (sedap gile in Malay) and the families were so welcoming.
Over the past few days the four groups have taken it in turns to try a range of activities. We've done beach cleans-ups, made quai (Malay desserts), gone snorkelling, made eco awareness videos, taught at the local school, done sea turtle ID surveys and sea turtle night watches. It's safe to say we've been very busy and the group has really bonded on the islands. The ecoteer team living on the islands have been great! They've looked after us, we've had lots of laughs and they've taught us a lot about what conservation is about.
We only have a few more days left on this stunning island and I'm sure we'll all be sad to leave. Monday is our last day so we're going to make the most of it!
